Children’s Dyslexia Center-Central New York Meets Walkathon Goal
September 24, 2011 was a misty, damp day when approximately nineteen people gathered to participate in the sixth annual
Timothy O’Connor-Slater Walk for Dyslexia. They gathered at the Center’s location on the grounds of the Eastern Star Campus
in Oriskany, walked along route 69 to the entrance to the Old Erie Canal Foot Trail, and walked either 3 or 5 k back to their
starting point.
We thank Stewart’s Shops for donations of water, Dewey Old Forge Chapter #449 OES for preparing, serving the food and North Woods
Lodge #849 F&AM for cooking the chicken for the dinner served at noon, and the Eastern Star Home for the use of the grounds for the bbq.
Although small in numbers, the walkers and contributors helped Central New York exceed its goal to raise $5000 by bringing in
$2100 that day. As of October 19, donations exceeded $6,400. Following the bbq, extra food was shared with Hope House on Eagle
Street, Utica.
The Board of Governors for CNY thanks all who participated and hope you will join us for next year’s walk. You can find us on the
web at cnyclc.org and on facebook
