For the children and the tutors we are on the back side of the year. January has a holiday, February has a holiday and March is just plain long. I have a variety of news items to share with you- Let’s get the “bad” out of the way-
After the break we had a parent withdraw a child from the program. It happened to be the young man that I was writing about in the info I sent out. He was doing well before break but things obviously had not gone well over the holiday and factors outside of the Center caused the decision.
The “good” news is that we have filled the opening with another child from the waitlist and, due to the return of another tutor, we have added two more children. We are presently tutoring 19 children at the Center. The parents of the children we have added were thrilled to be called and worked hard to rearrange schedules so the children could attend.
Now for the “not so ugly”! Since Jeffrey has left I needed to choose another child that I could keep you abreast of during the year and I have chosen Bryce. Bryce is a 14 year old eighth grader who entered the program this past fall who entered the program reading on a low- to mid-second grade level. We just did our annual mid-year assessment which showed that he has taken ownership of the phonemes (sounds) he has been taught along with using his rules and tools. His mother just reported that the school called to make sure they know that Bryce, for the first time, is at the top of his reading group!
This extremely pleasant young man, who is working on his Boy Scout Eagle Badge, is very appreciative of the opportunity you have given him.
As always- We thank you for you continued support.
